| Let there be sakuras in Riga! |

Yamazakura (mountain cherry blossom)

At 4 pm on 18 May 2010, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Takashi Osanai planted Sakura trees in the Vermanes gardens in honour of 20th TAS Baltics anniversary.
Sakura (a Japanese cherry tree) is a national symbol of Japan and part of the mentality of the Japanese people and a miracle of nature.
His Excellency, Ambassador Takashi Osanai in an interview to TAS Baltics company has mentioned that his dream would be to create a Sakura alley of 200 Sakuras in Latvia, which will be an alley of peace and friendship.
TAS Baltics planted altogether 20 Sakuras in Viestura Garden, Kronvalda Park and Vermanes gardens as a gift to the city for the company’s anniversary. The company hopes that these Sakura trees will grow and bloom year by year, strengthening and enhancing mutual relations and co-operation between Latvia and Japan.
The event was also attended by official Kobe city delegation that came to Riga on "Kobe Days", in honor of the Riga's sister city in Japan.
